Herbalism is the ability to pick plants that are mainly useful for creating potions. Herbalism is also an almost necessary requirement for Alchemy. You're going to find herbs all around the world, so why not get this skill and take advantage of it? Alchemy is a great skill that allows you to generate all sorts of instant and temporary potions to improve a character's effectiveness. Picking herbalism along with alchemy will save you a ton, and make you a ton of money. Roots and such can definately get expensive if you're buying them off of the auction house. So start hording up roots like this. 
Can sell them later on or start pumping out some potions.
After you've trained herbalism make sure you pull out the "Find Herb" tab from your spell book. Click that and when you pass near herbs your mini-map will show them as yellow dots.
